Foot Ball is one of the most played games in the world or probably the most played, also known as soccer, football is played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball and is also known as World’s most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field of grass or green colored artificial turf, each of the short ends is provided with a goal. Generally goalkeepers are the only players which can touch the ball using their hands while the other players can only use their legs and feet to kick the ball and also their trunks or heads occasionally. The object of the game is to score by driving the ball into the opponent team’s goal. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the game, a draw is declared or sometimes the game goes into extra time or a penalty shootout depending on the situation of the game.

The history of the football was originally started in China back to the second and third centuries BC when it was performed as an exercise from a military manual which was known as cuju. The modern rules of football were developed in mid 19^th century when it was played in schools of England often. After the codification of rules in 1863 by Football Association, the name association football was suggested to distinguish the game from other forms of football just like rugby football. Later on name soccer was also coined.

There are 17 laws in the official football laws. Main laws are same however some modifications have been made for different groups such as juniors, seniors, women and physically disables. Some times further flexibilities are also allowed depending on the nature of the game. The laws of football are developed and maintained by International Football Association Board and are published by FIFA.

The kit of football players involves a shirt, shorts, socks, footwear and adequate shine guards. The goalkeepers clothing must be different from the other players so that he can be easily distinguished by the team players and the audiences. Watches and different type of jewelry is not allowed to avoid the damage which can be caused to the other players.

The length of the pitch for International matches is in the range of 100-110m (110-120yd) and the width is in the range of 64-75m (70-80yd). For non-international matches field may be 90-120m (100-130yd) length and 45-90m (50-100yd) width and pitch should not become square. The longer boundary lines on the field are known as touchlines and the shorter boundary lines (on which the goals are placed) are called as goal lines. A standard football match is consists of two periods of 45 minutes each, known as halves. Each half runs continuously that means clock is not stopped when the ball is out of play. A 15-minute half-time break is also there between the two halves. The end of the match is known as full-time.

The major international event regarding football is World Cup which takes place every four years and includes 32 national teams competing over a 4-week period. After the World Cup, the most important international football competitions are the continental championships which are contested between national teams. Another big event is Summer Olympic Games. Earlier the event was for amateurs only, however since 1984 professional players have been permitted.
